Liverpool have enjoyed some incredible transfer successes over the years, but not every deal has worked out.
Whether through poor performances, injuries, bad attitudes or simply failing to justify their transfer fees, these are the 10 signings that left Reds supporters most frustrated.
10. Arthur Melo
Signed on loan from Juventus during Liverpool’s midfield injury crisis, Arthur was expected to provide much-needed cover. Instead, injuries limited him to just a brief cameo appearance before he disappeared from first-team plans.
9. Iago Aspas
A prolific goalscorer in Spain, Aspas arrived with high expectations but struggled to adapt to English football. His Liverpool career is often remembered for one infamous corner against Chelsea rather than his performances.
8. Salif Diao
Signed after impressing at the 2002 World Cup, Diao never looked comfortable in a Liverpool shirt. Despite occasional flashes, he failed to establish himself as a regular.
7. Paul Konchesky
One of Roy Hodgson’s most controversial signings, Konchesky endured a difficult spell at Anfield and quickly became a symbol of one of the club’s darkest Premier League eras.
6. Christian Benteke
A proven Premier League striker before arriving at Liverpool, Benteke never suited the style of play demanded at Anfield. Despite scoring some memorable goals, he lasted only a single season.
5. Mario Balotelli
Brought in following Luis Suarez’s departure, Balotelli arrived with a huge reputation. Unfortunately, he never delivered consistently and struggled badly during his short Liverpool career.
4. Alberto Aquilani
Signed as the successor to Xabi Alonso, Aquilani’s Liverpool spell was plagued by injuries. Supporters rarely saw the best of the talented Italian midfielder.
3. Andy Carroll
Liverpool paid a club-record fee to sign Carroll from Newcastle United. While he showed flashes of quality, injuries and inconsistency meant he never justified the enormous price tag.
2. Alexander Isak
Liverpool broke the British transfer record to sign Isak, but his first season at Anfield has been met with criticism from sections of the fanbase. Given the size of the investment and expectations surrounding the move, many supporters believe he already ranks among the club’s biggest transfer disappointments.
1. El Hadji Diouf
